OK, Ben. Arya Linux will be our distribution of the month.

But I see some pretty critical reviews of Arya online, so try
to find some reason to love it :)

Wow, it's time to get together and talk open source!

We'll be meeting this Wednesday (6:30 p.m. at TEK
Systems, 700 N. Hurstbourne Pkwy., in the first-floor
conference room). Our thanks to TEK Systems for providing
us with, not only a great meeting place, but also some
delicious food (usually pizza) and sodas.

Come primed to talk about some of the great things that
Linux and Open Source make possible in this wonderful
world of ours. (Or not. We'd love to see you anyway.)

  • So far, Britt Dodd has already volunteered to present
on some of the topics he mentioned last month (Hashicorp
    devops tools).
  • We should have time for other presentations and
discussions as well. What's on your minds, folks?

href="https://www.hashicorp.com/#open-source-tools">Hashicorp
is a company built on developing and supporting open
source products. Some of you will be familiar with its
original product, href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vagrant_%28software%29">Vagrant,
a simple way of configuring a virtual machine to run on
any platform. Hashicorp has followed that product with
several others, which all seem to be in the hot "devops"
space.

Britt says he will probably touch on three of these
Hashicorp tools: Consul, Nomad, and Serf.

Consul
is a distributed tool for service discovery,
configuration, and orchestration.

href="https://www.nomadproject.io/">Nomad is a
cluster manager and scheduler for deploying applications
across any infrastructure.

Serf
offers decentralized cluster membership, failure
detection, and orchestration

(I cheated and copied all that^^^ from the Hashicorps
website. I'm hoping Britt will give us the background to
all this, since I'm not sure I know what "service
discovery" and "cluster management" mean in the first
place. But I know I should know. And you should too.

We should have time for other presentations as well. What
have you all been up to? Anyone else up for presenting?

Looking forward to seeing you soon.

- John
