May KyOSS: OpenShift/Kubernetes and the EM Algorithm

Short title for calendar grid: KyOSS
Date: Wednesday, May 9, 2018
Time: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Location: TEK Systems, first-floor conference room, 700 N.Hurstbourne Pkwy. (Steel Technologies Bldg.)

Shane will tell about the EM algorithm (used in machine learning) and Deven will tell us about OpenShift, RedHat's brand of the Kubernetes container management system. All this and more!

So looks like our meeting will have two great topics:

  • Shane Kimble will show us his implementation of the Expectation-Maximization (EM) Algorithm, used in machine learning. (Looks like it might be a way of detecting latent variables from a set of historical outcomes.) You can take an advance peek at his code at his Github repository.
  • Deven Phillips will tell us about OpenShift and Kubernetes (and probably containers and Docker, along the way). OpenShift is a RedHat-supported distribution of the Kubernetes container management system.

In addition, Ben Fitzpatrick will give tell us about his build of Manjaro with KDE. And I'll give you an update on the chess program I told you about last month. (I've been cleaning it up a bit to make it more understandable. Maybe we can team it up with Shane's EM algorithm and take on Deep Blue!)

(And in June we can look forward to Liang Yan telling us about Linux distributions in general and the various attributes that distinguish one from another.)

Looking forward to seeing you all (Wednesday, May 9, 6:30 p.m., at our TEK-Systems sponsored venue: the first-floor conference room of the Steel Technologies Building, 700 N. Hurstbourne Pkwy.).
