June KyOSS: An insider's look at the major Linux distributions

Short title for calendar grid: KyOSS
Date: Wednesday, Jun 13, 2018
Time: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Location: TEK Systems, first-floor conference room, 700 N.Hurstbourne Pkwy. (Steel Technologies Bldg.)

SUSE's Liang Yan will give us a closer look at the major Linux commercial distributions (SUSE, RedHat, Ubuntu, etc.): how they choose their kernel and core components, how they support their customers, their production life cycle, etc. If you run a production shop, you need to be here.

On our program (postponed from last month) is Liang Yan (our resident SUSE Engineer) who will be giving us his presentation on the various major Linux distributions and their differences. Here's how he described it last month:

I am planning to talk about the differences between different Linux distros (SUSE, REDHAT, Ubuntu and so on ), how they choose their kernel and other core components, how they provide support to their customers, what is the life cycle of their productions, etc.
I will present a customer support scenario at last based on my work.
This will probably give you a basic idea of how Linux works, especially how commercial Linux works, and help you make decisions if your work is going to transfer to Linux in the future.

This is a chance to get a more technical, inside look at what goes into maintaining a distribution. Sounds very interesting!

We'll probably have time for some other topics as well, so come with your subjects for discussion. (And feel free to discuss other topics here.)

Looking forward to see you you soon!
