Vigil and Silent Witness for Engine Co. 7 Sat. and Sun.

Update on firehouse status:

Several local groups have filed for an injunction to stop the closing of Engine Co. 7, but the judge (Circuit Court Judge McKay Chauvin) will not be able to hear the case until Monday morning. Therefore, per Mayor Abramson's orders, the firehouse will be shut down after today's shift.

The last 24-hour shift at Firehouse 7 began at 8 a.m. this morning and ends at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning.

At that point our city will lose the distinction of having the oldest continuously operating firehouse in the United States!!

(Firefighters volunteered to maintain service until Monday without compensation, but that offer was rejected.)

Public Vigil at firehouse:

Tonight, Saturday, January 10, about 10pm for about one hour:

Come to Engine 7 with lights – candles, contained torches, e.g. citronella yard torches. Dress warmly and enjoy the camaraderie of your neighbors!

Tomorrow, Sunday, January 11, by 7:45am:

Be at Engine 7 in silent witness of the anticipated (we hope temporary!!) closing of the firehouse, scheduled for the end of the 8am – 8am. that started this morning.
