Yeah, I know I shouldn't feed a troll, but since this might actually be useful information to some:

    OSX:  sysctl machdep.cpu.brand_string
    FreeBSD: sysctl hw.model
    Linux: cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep 'model name'

all from a shell, obviously
